Wellbeing Week at The Knox School

This week, The Knox School focused on Wellbeing Week, a time dedicated to equipping students with the knowledge, strategies and support they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. The week coincided with R U OK? Day on Thursday, a timely reminder of the importance of checking in with one another and recognising that genuine conversations can change lives. Together, Wellbeing Week and R U OK? Day reinforced our commitment to building a culture of care, empathy and connection across our School community.

Wellbeing Week brings our School values to life in practical ways. When students practice strategies to manage stress or reflect on their relationships, they are building resilience. Open discussions and collaborative activities encourage empathy and respect, as students listen to different perspectives and support their peers. By taking responsibility for their choices and actions, students also show responsibility and care for themselves and those around them. Wellbeing Week provides a structured opportunity to pause, reflect and build important life skills that will serve our students long after they leave school.

Throughout the week, activities were tailored to each year level.

  • Year 7 students began their journey through the Consent and Respectful Relationships Education program with Consent Labs presenting Consent Foundations. They also participated in a series of wellbeing sessions across four weeks leading into their Camp Experience Day.
  • Year 8 students focused on stress management, with Mentors guiding them through strategies for managing anxious thoughts, developing self-awareness and coping with change. As part of this, they kept reflective journals and collaborated on a project that highlights the School’s core values.
  • Year 9 students explored relationship skills, discussing issues such as abuses of power, cycles of depression and making positive value-based choices. They will also hear from Consent Labs in a Healthy Relationships presentation to support this learning.
  • Year 10 students also focused on relationship skills, with lessons on recognising emotional warning signs, analysing power dynamics and understanding empowerment in friendships.
  • Years 11 and 12 worked with In Your Skin as part of the Consent and Respectful Relationships program, alongside Academic Coaches who led sessions on sexual health, emotional intelligence and building a professional online presence.

As Wellbeing Prefects: Chloe Moore and Kayla Gower helped design the program alongside staff and the SLPT portfolio. Chloe shared that their aim was to create a balance of fun and reflection, giving every student the chance to connect with others and take time for themselves. “We wanted to make sure there was something for everyone, from dance parties to mindful walks and yoga,” Chloe explained. She also highlighted the focus on everyday conversations about mental health, aligned with this year’s R U OK? theme “Ask R U OK? Any Day.”

Small habits, such as hobbies and volunteering, were also encouraged as ways to strengthen wellbeing. “Wellbeing isn’t just individual,” Chloe reflected. “It’s something we can support each other with. We hope students walk away from the week feeling more connected, supported, and encouraged to look after themselves and others.”

Wellbeing Week highlights the importance of preparing young people for life, equipping them with the tools to manage challenges, build meaningful relationships and develop resilience alongside their academic success. At The Knox School, we are proud to support our students in becoming not only capable learners, but also thoughtful and well-rounded individuals who embody our School values
