This week, our Year 8 students headed to Anglesea for an enriching camp experience that encouraged independence, teamwork and personal growth. Throughout the week, students were supported by their peers and teachers as they embraced new challenges and developed important life skills.

Camp provided the perfect opportunity for students to step outside their comfort zones and into their growth zones. By trying new activities and working together, students strengthened their confidence, resilience and sense of responsibility, all important qualities as they continue to grow as young adults.

Students enjoyed a wide range of exciting activities designed to challenge and inspire them. These included surfing, kayaking, bike riding, hiking and tree surfing, where they navigated high ropes and zip lines. Students also explored the local environment through activities focused on the Anglesea coastline and rock pools and even had the chance to create their own sculptures.

Evenings were filled with fun and connection, with students taking part in activities such as a talent show and movie night.

The camp also encouraged students to take on greater responsibility. Each group worked together to cook their own dinners and assist with meal preparation, building teamwork, independence and practical life skills.

Overall, the Anglesea camp provided many memorable moments, allowing students to achieve personal milestones, strengthen friendships and extend their learning beyond the classroom through hands-on experiences in the natural environment.

Student Reflections:

My Year 8 camp at Anglesea was a really fun and memorable experience. One of my favourite activities was visiting Live Wire Park. The high ropes and zip lines were exciting and challenged me to step outside my comfort zone. It felt great completing the courses and cheering on my friends while they did them too.

Another highlight was surfing. Even though it was a bit challenging at first, it was really fun learning how to balance on the board and ride the waves. Being in the ocean with everyone made it a great experience.

I also really enjoyed hanging out with my friends throughout the camp. Whether we were doing activities, talking on the bus, or just relaxing together, it made the trip even more enjoyable. On the bus rides, I loved looking out the window and seeing the beautiful scenery along the coast.

Overall, the Anglesea camp was an amazing experience. It was a great chance to try new activities, spend time with friends, and enjoy the outdoors. It is definitely a trip I will remember for a long time.

Year 8 camp was overall a wonderful, unforgettable experience! We had the chance to try new things that we may not have done before, for me surfing was new and it was so great to be able to give it a go! The hike was really amazing, and I was able to see some beautiful views while chatting to my friends along the way. I had so much fun the entire camp and I will never forget the memories I made. I would 100% do it again if I had the chance to!

Camp was an enthralling experience for me. Really taking on challenges to persevere turned out incredibly entertaining. This experience will continue to be a highlight and show how amazing Year 8 camp truly was.

Year 8 camp has to be one of my favorite camps I have done in my life. I love all the activities we got to do and even cooking with a Trangia (even though cleaning it can get a bit tedious). The chefs were also really kind and humorous, cooking really delicious food. Kayaking and surfing were my favourite. Kayaking was definitely an arm workout, but it was fun doing it with my friends and playing the games they had. Surfing was also really thrilling. Having the time of my life with friends and catching waves was just an amazing experience. Overall, I had the best time and wish I could do it again.
