The Victorian Schools Music Festival (VSMF) continued to provide valuable performance opportunities for The Knox School’s young musicians this week, with students from Wind Symphony and Concert Band proudly representing the School at Hawthorn Town Hall on Tuesday 25 August.
35 students from Wind Symphony and 38 students from Concert Band took to the stage, performing in one of Melbourne’s respected music venues. The experience provided students with the opportunity to showcase their musical talents in a professional performance setting while continuing to develop as ensemble musicians.
The Victorian Schools Music Festival is much more than a performance event. It gives students the opportunity to perform for experienced adjudicators, receive feedback from leading music educators and conductors, and observe ensembles from schools across Victoria. These experiences help students deepen their musical understanding while gaining new ideas and inspiration from the wider music community.
For our students, taking to the stage at Hawthorn Town Hall was an opportunity to demonstrate the results of many hours of rehearsal and preparation. Performing in front of peers, educators and fellow musicians can be both exciting and challenging, and our students embraced the experience with maturity and enthusiasm.
Beyond the performance itself, students benefited from watching other ensembles and learning from industry professionals. These opportunities provide valuable insights into ensemble performance and help students continue to refine their skills while building confidence as musicians.
We are incredibly proud of the way our Wind Symphony and Concert Band students represented The Knox School throughout the festival. Their performances reflected the hard work they have invested throughout the year, as well as the strong sense of connection and collaboration that exists within our music program.
Congratulations to all students involved, and thank you to our dedicated staff, Head of Music & Performing Arts, Mr Nico Di Stefano, Deputy Head of Music – Ensembles & Bands, Ms Karman Melitsis, and staff members Mr Ben Carr and Mr Alex Spicer, for their support throughout the festival. Opportunities such as VSMF provide students with invaluable performance experience, and it was wonderful to see our ensembles make the most of everything the festival had to offer.
Following on from the recent success of Dolce Strings, Corelli Strings and Volante Strings at the Victorian Schools Music Festival, it has been wonderful to see students across multiple ensembles representing The Knox School on some of Victoria’s premier performance stages. Together, these performances highlight the strength of our music program and the many opportunities available for students to grow, perform and share their love of music with others.
