On Tuesday 10 February, our Years 2–12 students gathered to open the 2026 school year with a special assembly and Acknowledgement of Country. We were honoured to welcome Nartarsha Bamblett, a proud First Nations woman living and learning on Naarm Country in Melbourne.

Her message centred on one powerful idea: intention.

Nartarsha shared the meaning of Wominjeka — “Welcome” in the Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people. More than a greeting, it means coming with purpose. It invites us to ask: when we arrive at school each day, do we simply show up, or do we arrive with intention?

She encouraged us to reflect on our connection to Country and to one another. If we truly belong to this place, then we also carry responsibility — to care for our environment, respect our shared spaces, and treat each other with kindness.

Her question stays with us: How are you leaving things better than you found them?

In the classroom, this might mean giving your best effort. In the playground, it might mean choosing kindness. In our community, it means acting with integrity and respect.

As we open 2026, may we do so with purpose — learning deeply, leading thoughtfully, and leaving every space stronger than we found it.

Wominjeka to a year of intention.
