House spirit is more than just a splash of colour on a sports jersey at TKS – it’s a way of life! From sporting triumphs to sugar-fueled showdowns, students continue to embrace every opportunity to represent their Houses and chase that coveted House Shield.

The House system continues to bring out the best in our students through a diverse range of events, including Swimming, Athletics and Cross-Country Carnivals, as well as the ever-popular House Arts Festival. But it’s not just about big events – it’s the little moments that are also making a big impact.

Earlier this term, the battle of brains took centre-stage during the Years 7 to 12 House Chess Competition. A grand total of 35 students took part in the lunchtime event, each House squaring off across nine matches. The atmosphere was electric – more football final than quiet chess match – as cheers erupted and tension mounted with every move. Congratulations to Chisholm House, who claimed the crown with 8 out of 9 wins! The event’s roaring success has already put another chess competition on the cards for Semester 2.

If chess brought the brains, then biscuits brought the fun (and sugar rush)! On Friday 30 May 2025, the House Biscuit Decorating Competition filled the Hospitality Centre with colour, creativity, and a whole lot of icing. Open to Years 7 and 12, the event was a sweet reunion between younger students and their Year 12 buddies. Over 30 participants piped, sprinkled and stuck their way to biscuit glory, using House colours to create edible masterpieces. Best of all? They got to eat the results! Paterson House took the win this round – perhaps proving that sweet success really does taste better.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! The next challenge on the House calendar is the House Debating Competition, kicking off soon in the final week of Term 2. The first round promises some fiery arguments, with Chisholm and Flinders debating whether The Knox School should adopt a four-day school week, while Lawrence and Paterson will battle it out over the controversy of a potential casual dress uniform policy.

From biscuit brilliance to intellectual showdowns, the House system continues to give every student a chance to shine – and snack – while building community, confidence, and a healthy dose of friendly competition. Stay tuned, the TKS House Spirit is only just starting to heat up!
